About Sam
Sam Gregory is soccer strategy and data analytics expert with experience both as a data scientist and a director overseeing data strategy and technology acquisition.
His educational background is in economics; he completed his undergraduate degree at McGill University and a masters degree at the London School of Economics. After finishing his degrees in economics Sam worked with multiple companies in the sport technology space. Firstly, as a data scientist for Opta (now StatsPerform) developing metrics and insights for pro club and media clients, and later as the soccer analytics team lead at Sportlogiq, a computer vision sports analytics company based out of Montréal.
He has experience working as a Director of Analytics with two professional clubs: York United FC in the Canadian Premier League, and Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer. His work at York United and Inter Miami ranged from recruitment, tactical and performance analysis as well as overall club strategy. During his time at Inter Miami the club achieved their first full playoff appearance as well as their first trophy winning the 2023 Leagues Cup.
Concurrent with his work at these clubs he obtained a Masters by Research at Victoria University studying the intersections of player movement, tactical context and value creation in soccer.
Sam is currently the Director of Data Analytics at U.S. Soccer working across the Men’s and Women’s Senior Teams as well as all Youth and Extended National Teams.
